Hi all,
i have been watching the weather for the weekend. It is looking questionable with 40% chance of rain both Saturday and Sunday with temps in the 50s. It IS still a week away and the weathermen could still change their mind on what will happen so keep an open mind and watch for updates.
In addition a friend notified me that he paddled the stretch of the Wambaw from the Bridge to Still Landing last month....or at least that was the plan, but a tree was blocking the river at high tide and they had to turn around. A trip up there with a saw would fairly easily remedy the problem, but I have neither the time nor the saw to fix it before next weekend. The Wambaw will have to wait. I have decided to try to salvage a paddle though (this being my birthday paddle and all.). I am changing the paddle to Goose Creek Reservoir on Sunday Dec 22. Meet at 10:30 am, launch at 11 am. The Landing is Bettis Landing. Per Ralph’s book the coordinates are 32.932632,-80.022793. It is in Hanahan behind Trident College. I was able to pull it up in Maps on my phone with a search for Bettis Boat Landing The paddle is about 7 miles round trip. Dress for the weather and bring water, a snack and sunscreen. We will not stop for lunch but there are picnic tables at the landing to eat after the paddle.
As usual...no presents please. I just want to paddle with friends. We will also celebrate the winter Solstice, meaning longer days for paddling!! No one was signed up for this Paddle on the web site at the time of this note. Please let me know if you plan to join me so I can keep you informed.
